Street Photography Courses in London – Full Day
London street photography one-day courses
Improve your seeing and photography skills in a single informative and entertaining day. Suitable for all levels
£180 How to book
See our previous students’ pictures in the London street photography gallery at the bottom of this page.
Join me for a full day of tuition and make some serious strides forward with your street photography skills. Groups are kept very small (5-6 people) so each individual gets lots of one-to-one time and learning levels are high.
These aren’t the sort of days where you are left to wonder aimlessly with your camera. These are courses that concentrate on introducing new concepts, developing new ways of seeing and polishing existing skills.
During the day you’ll learn how to identify a good location, and then discover how to work it to find the best angles and to optimise its potential. We’ll talk composition, exposure and lighting, as well as timing, lenses and focusing – and what makes one of those magical decisive moments.
Who is it for?
As there is such a high degree of one-to-one time on these courses they will suit photographers of any ability and experience. You may have just bought your first camera or you might have been taking pictures for years, it doesn’t matter. Members of the group are encouraged to learn from each other’s unique vision as well as from the instruction and guidance that I will deliver.
The itinerary of the day will depend on a number of factors, including the weather, the time of year and what is happening in London at the time (road works, building refurbishment etc). In broad terms though, we will meet-up mid-morning, usually 11am, and then, after a brief chat about the day and what everyone expects and wants, we’ll visit a number of locations to talk through the ways in which they can be photographed.
There will be a brief stop for lunch and then the group will work on until about 4pm when we retire to review the pictures taken during the day. This is a group review session during which group members get the chance to see how the others tackled the same tasks. It is always amazing to see the range of different angles and viewpoints, and it’s often surprising to see who comes out with the best shots. It’s not a competition, of course, but beginners sometimes get great satisfaction from their shock high-ranking and success. The day will finish at about 5pm.
In all though these are fun days devoted to learning something new about something you enjoy very much. There is no pressure, and advice and guidance are given in a very friendly and supportive way. There is no such thing as a stupid question, and I’m more than happy to discuss basic concepts, kit choice, photographic techniques and advanced practice.
I run these courses once a month. Using the calendar in the top right of the page you will be able to see on which day of each month there is a course. Click the date to see the details and if you’d like to book email me. I’ll be able to tell you whether the course you want is available, and give you payment instructions. You can also visit my photography workshops page that lists upcoming classes.

I attended the masterclass with Damien on 15th June, and it was one of the best things I ever did to improve my photography.
Damien did a great job of keeping it fun whilst teaching us many things about how to see the subject differently based on the light. Amongst the places we covered on the day – I had not been to a few of them before but more importantly, Damien helped me see photos in places I had visited several times!
All in all, a very inspiring day for me and I enjoyed every moment of it.
A great day out, which improved my photography hugely. Damien is a great tutor, and explained all aspects of the course really clearly.
The knowledge was both technical and aesthetic. Timing, composition and looking for good places to shoot street pictures were all covered.
I recommend this course very highly for anyone who wants to move up to the next level with their photography.
Great value – a full day with an excellent tutor who really knows his stuff and is passionate about photography.
Ever looked at an image taken by someone else when you were there at the same location and thought, “I never saw that. How clever!”? Damien teaches you to see the light (as it were) and spot those great images in any location.
(Plus it’s a day out of the office).
Thank you!
Having had an interest in street photography for about a year now, I’ve been looking for a course where I could learn how to actually see and create interesting street images and different views of well-known landmarks. Damien’s course definitely achieved this, he’s an excellent tutor and I came away surprising myself how much I had benefitted from the day, both in ‘seeing’ pictures and technically, bringing back some personally satisfying images.
It was also nice to be able to finish up with a review of everyone’s pictures over drinks – a great way to conclude what really was an excellent day. Thoroughly recommended.
I was at a point in my photography where I was looking for a fresh view on things. I got that and a whole lot more from the day with Damien. Undoubtedly, the course members fed off each other and it was very well led by Damien. I found that it (or rather, he) allowed all of us to develop from our own starting points and there was room for all levels of need and experience to be honest and ask questions, seeking guidance as little, or often, as we liked. Great to be led by someone whose passion is the image, not the kit, and who appreciates great images, no matter who’s taken them. My plan is to put the learning into practice, make some changes to the way I do things, then go back and do another course to see how I’m doing. Thanks and see you soon!!
A fantastically stimulating day. Damien’s constant guidance and encouragement to look and shoot in new ways produced an amazing variety of images from a very small area, and has certainly changed the way I look for and take pictures (for the better, I hope). Many thanks, and hope to be able to join you on another course at some point!
The best money I’ve ever spent on a photography seminar, no doubt about it. Damien has vast amounts of experience and knowledge and truly enjoys sharing it. Refreshingly, not once during the whole day did he try to sell anything or mention any sponsors.
After spending time listening to him and working with him, I feel better able to articulate my vision and my photography has demonstrably improved.
Everyone on the Sevenoaks Camera Club street photography workshop with you had a great time, both enjoying and learning from the day. You helped, encouraged and – if appropriate – challenged, but all in a constructive and friendly manner. It was very helpful that you addressed some of the behavioural aspects of street photography as well as the practical issues. Some of our members who had felt less confident before the day soon found there was nothing to fear and said they really did get a lot from it.
All in all, an excellent day, appreciated by all of us and highly recommended. We even think we got a few good photos!
A great day with Damien, learning so much about timing, composition and the use of light. He explained things so simply and his comments were both constructive and encouraging. I am now seeing street photography in a different light altogether. And the day was great fun!
Damien’s focused approach and infectious enthusiasm ensured that we learned a lot and came away with more than a few keepers. Add to that some really fruitful locations, thanks to Damien’s ‘insider’s knowledge’ of the area, and you have a foolproof recipe for a super and satisfying day’s photography.
Thank you so much Damien for making your Street Photography course so enjoyable.
You will definitely see me again as I found your practical & approachable style of teaching really works for me.
I learnt so much on the course & I’m really looking forward to putting what I’ve learnt into practice in making better quality images.
Will be recommending your courses to my photography friends for sure
See you for the November night course
A very useful day: a small group of people, with varied photographic backgrounds, interests and skills, but with a shared desire to improve their street photography.
Damien provided not just tips and tricks, but also reviewed our photos and led a group discussion on the results of the day, which provided helpful input (also from the other workshop members) identifying the stronger images.
On a personal note, I am a painter and use my camera frequently to capture people in their natural environments with a view to painting them; as a result I usually shoot in colour. For this workshop day I decided to use a camera that I know less well (Lumix LX7) rather than my DSLR, partially because smaller cameras are often more practical for street photography, and to focus predominantly on black&white composition (but JPEG + RAW so I do have RAW colour files too). I spent an hour the night before working through the Lumix manual (something I guess I am not alone in never otherwise getting around to) and that allowed me to spend a lot more time on composition than on looking at how to change my settings. I even managed to take a few colour pictures. A full day and I walked home with several hundred images to sort through. And you know what? I liked quite a few.
Thanks, Damien, I look forward to another workshop
A great day in a chilly Edinburgh. As I normally shoot landscape it was really refreshing to try something different and less predictable. A bit scary at first….the scenery doesn’t normally mind having its photo taken so I was unsure how people would react. But Damien explained how to manage that and indeed people really are ok with being photographed. I even got a couple of photos I’m happy with but I need more practise ……or go on another day with Damien 🙂
