From the photographer

I LOVE THE characteristics of different cameras, the looks they create and the impact they have on the way that I feel when I am using them. I use a broad mix of new and old cameras, both film and digital in my photography, matching the tools to the end result I’m after.

Although my career is in photography (I am the editor of Amateur Photographer magazine) it has been easy to separate my professional life from the pictures shown here, because they were taken purely for pleasure.

I am lucky, as I have been able to retain the spirit of the amateur while earning a living from the occupation I love most in the world.

I often feel the urge to specialise in one subject area of photography, to build a solid reputation for a certain subject, but I’m quite incapable of abandoning any one of the many areas I enjoy.

I photograph what takes my fancy, what I find interesting and what I enjoy looking at.
The pictures on these pages reflect the types of photography I find fulfilling.

Of course I hope that you can share my enjoyment of these galleries, but if there is nothing here that you like I’m sorry.

Selfishly, I was only thinking of myself when I took them.
